A Message from the Nuclear and Radiological Engineering and Medical Physics Program Chair
Welcome to the Nuclear and Radiological Engineering and Medical Physics program at Georgia Institute of Technology. Our rich heritage began in 1962 with the establishment of the School of Nuclear Engineering, which later merged with the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering in 1984.
We offer a comprehensive academic portfolio including an ABET-accredited B.S. degree in Nuclear and Radiological Engineering, M.S. degrees in Nuclear Engineering and Medical Physics, and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering with options in both Nuclear Engineering and Medical Physics. Our CAMPEP-accredited programs include the Medical Physics M.S., Ph.D., and graduate Certificate in Medical Physics.
Our community comprises approximately 200 students, evenly split between undergraduate and graduate programs. Undergraduate students benefit from extensive internship opportunities and hands-on research experiences right here at Georgia Tech.
Georgia Tech's NRE/MP program stands at the forefront of innovation. We lead the Consortium for Enabling Technologies and Innovation 2.0 (ETI 2.0) and play a crucial role in the NEXTRA Alliance, which is designing, licensing, and building an advanced molten salt nuclear reactor in Texas.
Our Medical Physics education and research is supported via strategic collaborations with Emory University and Augusta University. These collaborations provide our students with additional research and clinical experience opportunities.
The program houses cutting-edge research facilities, including the Radiation Science and Engineering Laboratory (RSEL). This versatile facility features a High Bay Support Area for radiation detection and nuclear engineering experiments, specialized vaults equipped with both D-D and D-T neutron generators, and a CLINAC accelerator.
I invite you to explore our program and discover how we're shaping the future of nuclear engineering and medical physics at Georgia Tech.
Regards,
Steven Biegalski
